The University of Washington is among the best universities in the world for studies in the health and life sciences, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2022.
The ranking, released today, covered four broad disciplines: physical sciences, life sciences, psychology and clinical and health.
In physical sciences, UW ranked 21st in the world, third among US public institutions. The physical sciences include mathematics and statistics; physics and astronomy; chemistry; and geology, environmental, land and sea sciences.
UW was among the top 107 institutions this year on the life sciences list, coming in at No. 18, or third place among U.S. public universities. This subject includes agriculture and forestry; Biological Sciences; Veterinary science; and sports sciences.
For psychology rankings, UW ranked among the top 10 US public institutions and No. 31 in the world. Psychology includes psychology; educational / sport / business / animal psychology; and clinical psychology.
And, finally, in clinical and health rankings, UW ranked No. 21, or third among U.S. public institutions. This discipline includes medicine and dentistry; and other health topics.
The ranking included 1,523 universities from 98 countries and regions. The subject tables use the same range of 13 performance indicators as those used in the 2022 World University Rankings, however, the overall methodology is recalibrated for each subject, with the weights being changed to suit individual subject areas.
